Olveston CEVC Primary School
St Mary's Church
Olveston CEVC has very strong links with St Mary’s Church in the village. We regularly attend services at the church as a whole school as well as perform there and make visits as part of our RE learning. Revd Moss comes into school to lead our collective worship during the term. You can find out more about the church on their website. www.stmarysolveston.org.uk

Remembrance Day
On the 11th November we went to St Mary’s for a Remembrance Service led by the Royal British Legion. Our Reception class made a wreath that they laid on the cenotaph and Year 5 read the poem ‘For the Fallen’. It was a very thought provoking service and the children showed great respect throughout which led us to receiving a lovely letter from the Royal British Legion that you can also see here.

Year 1 visit to church and model church
Year 1 have been learning about places of worship and went to St Mary’s church to learn about the important features of the church to Christians. They met the verger June Robbins who was happy to answer their questions! After their visit they worked in groups to make a model church. Each group made a different part from the building to stained glass windows and the congregation!
Community Carols
On the last day of the Autumn term the whole community was invited to join us for a Christmas service. We had a fantastic turn out with parents, governors and members of the local community coming to watch the children perform. Highlights included carols sung in German and French!
